Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life Books Schoenfeld for December 11 Opening

Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life has found its Broadway home at the Schoenfeld Theatre. The show is set to begin performances there on November 23 in preparation for a December 11 opening, a production spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com.

Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life will not be in the traditional solo show format, instead it will feature an ensemble of performers. In addition to Rivera, the cast will include Richard Amaro, Cleve Asbury, Lloyd Culbreath, Jasmine Perri, Madeleine Kelly, Malinda Farrington, Edgard Gallardo, Deirdre Goodwin, Richard Montoya, Lainie Sakakura, Alex Sanchez and Allyson Tucker.

Written by Terrence McNally and directed and choreographed by Graciela Daniele, the piece promises to celebrate not only Rivera, but also the great choreographers of the Broadway stage, including Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Gower Champion and Michael Kidd. Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have written original songs for the piece which will be used in addition to certain songs from Rivera's past triumphs.

Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life will feature scenic design by Loy Arcenas, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, sound design by Scott Lehrer and musical direction by Mark Hummel. Prior to Broadway, the show is now scheduled to run at San Diego's Old Globe from September 10 through November 6.

The Schoenfeld has been vacant since Brooklyn closed on June 26.
